Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin was an astrophysicist and astronomer. She graduated from Oxford before they gave degrees to women, and fought to receive recognition for her work. Her PhD thesis established that the sun was primarily made up of hydrogen, and thus different from the earth, an idea that was new for the time. Her advisor discouraged her from publishing it, instead taking it as his own 5 years later. While he did credit her in his paper, he is often considered the author of her ideas. This website is dedicated to Cecilia, and all other women who struggle to get their voices across. We hear you, we appreciate you, we acknowledge your work.
